Mintin Delware
Male Elf, Swarm Keeper Ranger
Male Elf, Swarm Keeper Ranger
After beginning a life doing the only work he's ever been good at, being a thief, Mintin came across a magical key that allowed him to control a swarm of spell-slinging, portal-opening, and door-unlocking keys.
Mintin Delware is an elf raised in the Shadowfell. Like many elves his family was tricked into moving to the Shadowfell by dark forces a long time ago. At one point, his family was nobility, but now they have devolved into simply a well-respected family.
Once he reached the appropriate age for an elf, Mintin began working. He worked many jobs over hundreds of years, including hard labor, merchant work, writing work, and even police work. Mintin traveled throughout the Shadowfell working jobs and eventually reached the material plane. He even gave out some simple quests to budding level 1 adventurers at some of his jobs.
There was one problem, though: Mintin was rubbish at most jobs. No matter how hard he tried, he could never move up in a job. He would simply quit or be fired before being promoted. This became very tiring to Mintin, who began to have a mid-life crisis at the age of 400. He spiraled into making big purchases and eventually became in debt.
Unsure of what to do now Mintin made a decision that would change his life. He decided to break into someones house and rob them. Not something he would do normally but he saw an opportunity and took it.
He did so successfully and discovered that he was pretty great at it! He began to steal from more houses and became more ambitious with each robbery, not just from normal houses but also from rich mansions.
Mintin started having the best century of his life. He had a "job" that he actually enjoyed and was good at! He was nervous, however. His family would not approve of his new life, as they wanted to keep the family name respected, so he cut off communication with them. Things continued like this until Mintin was the age of 509. Then everything changed.
Mintin broke into what he thought was just another mansion—a rich person's house with outdated security. He broke in and found their vault. Inside, there were many strange magical artifacts. The one that Mintin was drawn to, however, was what seemed to be a small, simple grey key. Mintin couldn't say what exactly was drawing him, but it was almost as if it was calling him.
The moment he picked it up, everything went to hell.
The key opened a portal and what seemed like thousand of keys flew out of the portal and swarmed around him. He freaked out and alerted the house and he had to make an escape. That's when he found out the keys could open portals that could teleport him out.
He escaped, but is unsure if anyone saw his identity. Mintin still held the key that all the other keys seemed beholden to. He studied it and the other keys and found he could manipulate them as long as he had the main key. He found out he could use them to open portals, unleash spells, and open most doors.
Mintin trained with the keys and began using them on heists. The keys seemed to always guide him to the most profitable house, and in other ways too. He started having a feeling that there were other keys like the one he found, keys that led to somewhere important.
So, Mintin decided to try to find these other keys. He has been unsuccessful so far, but he feels like he's getting close.
