The Proprietor
Aberrant Mind Hexblade Warlock Hat
Aberrant Mind Hexblade Warlock Hat
With a life spanning over a century, The Proprietor is now but an observer, patiently waiting to reap the fruits of his labor. Inhabiting a 17-year-old boy, he orchestrates assurance for a future only he can comprehend.
This is not the story of the circus Ringleader.
The Ringleader was an inventive man creating all sorts of magical trinkets that he would present in his circus performances.
Was it greed do you think that drove him to create something he couldn't control?
From that day forward, the Ringleader wasn't themselves anymore. Only a few noticed he changed, and fewer still noticed his new Hat, which pulsed with an aura that wasn't quite right.
This is also not the story of the King, who wished for entertainment.
The King decided to see what the common folk did to entertain themselves and went to the circus.
What a day it was, a King visiting a humble circus. A foolish mistake.
That day, the circus gave its best performance yet; Trap eze flew, lions roared, and the King watched in delight. The Ringleader also watched in delight, but not at the performance, at the King.
The Ringleader Flattered the King, presenting him with a gift: a new Crown. The King was oddly taken with the Crown and accepted it to wear. He would never be the same.
This isn't the story of the King's children.
The King passed along his Crown to each and every descendant. All who ruled on the throne wore that Crown. There was a noticeable change in every king when they began to rule. Everyone assumed it was the burden of responsibility.
As the Crown sat upon the descendant's head, they all gave out strange orders. Orders intended for a higher purpose that none of them would get to see. Eventually, the orders became too absurd, and the kingdom collapsed.
This is not the story of the Boy, who explored the ruined castle after it had fallen.
The boy was looking for something interesting, and he found something interesting. A solitary hat, just lying in a room.
Was it greed do you think for the boy to take something he could not control?
Truly, the answer doesn't matter. The story isn't about them. This story is about another being, for that Hat isn't just a cursed magic item. It is a living force brought to life. That force calls itself the Proprietor; it has a new body, and all of its plans are prepared.
What do you think it'll do next?
The Properietor prefers to inhabit humanoid creatures. Specifically people with power over people.
He uses his tendrils like a puppet to control them.
Full ease of control isn't gained initially. He usually disappears into the persons home for awhile to practice.
Over the lifetime of the kingdom he controlled, The Proprietor collected a hoard of rare stones called Cataclysmite. He has hidden it somewhere and is now waiting for it to erode and react to the environment. Once this happens, it will cause a violent explosion.
The hat is just a hole in the fabric of the universe that goes to the far realm.
He is actually a massive tendril-like entity from the far realm. Only part of his body is able to squeeze through the hole, giving the perception of a hat-sized creature.
Mechanic: If the hat is removed from a body before starvation, a greater restoration spell will revive them at the end of 1d4 long rests.
