Wail
Gargantuan Aberration, Unaligned
Gargantuan Aberration, Unaligned
One of the largest predators of the Bleed is the wail - so named not because of its size or similarity to creatures that dwell in the mortal realms seas, but because of it's distinctive and utterly unique call. Some walls even seem to mimc what they hear!
To the wail the Bleed is like a huge, dark restaurant. Wails like to eat whatever they can find and use their specially reticulated jaws to break down even the toughest catch into bite-sized pieces. And almost everything is bite-sized to a wail! Their diet may include jell ghouls, mirror hawk kings, and, if needed, smaller wails. They could even consume an entire ship if they detect food inside!
Wails have been observed to live about 40 days on average. The oldest on record was a wail named Rascal, who lived to be 51! Rascal ate many famous explorers.
Don't. It's best not to travel during unset. But if you happen to encounter one, watch out! Keep quiet! and STAY STILL. Try to hide in cool, dry locations and wait for it to leave.
Wails can't see, but they have a way of locating creatures. They use sensors similar to heat detection and respond to loud noises within a closer range. They are very good at telling living things apart from non-living things.
