Silverwing Raptors

Description

Silverwings, or Silverwing Raptors are Griffin-like creatures native to Limbfjord. Their origin is unknown and they are thought to be "born from the skies." This is because their nesting grounds have never been seen, not even their young. They are also not domesticated and handed out like horses but rather must be earned. They also seem to have a human-like intelligence, so a bond can not be forced onto them; rather, there must be mutual agreement and respect.

Some Silverwing want nothing to do with the Vikings. Others see their help as kindness, while others simply want something to dig their talons into. It is said they respect strength, power, and a lack of fear.

Environment

Silverwing Raptors live amongst the skies and thus are accustomed to its conditions. Lightning has no effect on them, and with the help of a rider, they are able to channel it. An example would be a rider calling a thunderstrike onto their Silverwing, which the Silverwing then uses to electrify its talons or even redirect it out of its beak.

Stormsong Calls

Thunderpeak riders communicate with their Silverwing through a series of melodic calls known as Stormsongs. These calls convey specific commands and foster a harmonious connection between the rider and the Silverwing. In some cases, warriors and Silverwng form a bond so strong they are able to communicate telepathically.

Symbolic Significance

The Silverwings hold symbolic significance for the Thunderpeak tribe, representing the untamed power of storms and the tribe's mastery over them. The feathers of these beasts are often used in ceremonial attire.
